Duties of the Welfare Standing Committee

As per the Kerala Panchayat Raj Act, the Welfare Standing Committee of the Gram Panchayat is a standing committee working towards social welfare and upliftment of the backward classes. The main duties of the committee are given below:

1. Scheduled Caste – Scheduled Tribe Welfare

Implement schemes for the educational, social and economic progress of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe sections.

2. Women’s Welfare Activities

To formulate and implement schemes aimed at women’s empowerment, self-employment, safety and health.

3. Child Welfare Activities

To coordinate activities such as child protection, nutrition and educational assistance.

4. Elderly and differently abled welfare

To supervise welfare schemes for the elderly, differently abled and widows.

5. Social Security Pension

To ensure efficient distribution of various social security pension schemes.

6. Anganwadi Activities

Monitor the functioning of Anganwadis, nutrition distribution and child care.

7. Kudumbashree-Swayamsaya Sangham Activities

Provide necessary support to Kudumbashree units and women's self-help groups.

8. Social Awareness Activities

Organize programs such as anti-alcohol activities, women and child protection awareness.

9. Prevention of social injustices

Interventions to prevent child labor, violence against women, social discrimination, etc.

10. Beneficiary Selection

Identify and recommend eligible beneficiaries for various government welfare schemes.

11. Collaboration with various departments

Implement welfare activities in collaboration with departments such as health, education and social welfare.

12. Upliftment of backward classes

Formulate and implement special schemes for the comprehensive development of the backward classes in the society.

Duties of the Welfare Standing Committee

As per the Kerala Panchayat Raj Act, the Welfare Standing Committee of the Gram Panchayat is responsible for coordinating and implementing various welfare activities in the community. The main duties are as follows:

  1. Implementing welfare activities for the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
  2. Formulating schemes for the social, economic and educational advancement of women.
  3. Coordinating child protection and child welfare activities.
  4. Supervising welfare schemes for the vulnerable groups such as the elderly, differently abled, widows.
  5. Ensuring efficient distribution of social security pension schemes.
  6. Monitoring Anganwadi activities, nutrition schemes, etc.
  7. Providing support to women's self-help groups and Kudumbashree activities.
  8. Organizing anti-drug activities and social awareness programs.
  9. Coordinating activities to prevent child labour, violence against women and social injustices.
  10. Identify and recommend beneficiaries of various government welfare schemes.
  11. Implement welfare activities in collaboration with the health, education and social welfare departments.
  12. Formulate special schemes for the upliftment of the backward classes in the panchayat.
