Duties of the Health Education Standing Committee
As per the Kerala Panchayat Raj Act, the Health Education Standing Committee of the Gram Panchayat is a standing committee that coordinates public health, sanitation and educational development. The main duties of the committee are given below:
1. Public Health Protection
To organize various health programs and awareness activities for the protection of the health of the people.
2. Sanitation Activities
To supervise environmental sanitation, waste disposal and cleaning activities.
3. Immunization Activities
To coordinate disease control, vaccination and health camps.
4. Supervision of Health Institutions
To monitor the functioning of health sub-centers, family health centers, hospitals etc.
5. Drinking Water and Sanitation Facilities
To ensure supply of clean water, public toilets and sanitation facilities.
6. Educational Development
Develop and implement plans to improve the quality of education in the Panchayat.
7. Supervision of School Activities
Monitor the infrastructure and educational activities of government and aided schools.
8. Student Welfare Activities
Provide support for student welfare schemes such as tuition assistance, scholarships, and nutrition schemes.
9. Literacy Activities
Organize literacy mission activities and continuing education programmes.
10. Health and Education Awareness
Conduct awareness programmes on health, nutrition, hygiene, and the importance of education.
11. Women and Child Health Care
Lead the health care programmes for pregnant women, lactating mothers, and children.
12. Cooperation with Related Departments
Implement projects in collaboration with the departments of Health, Education, and Social Welfare.
