Vaniyampalam Rock
Vaniyambalam Rock is one of the most important scenic tourist destinations in Vandoor Panchayat. This area is of great importance historically and geographically.
The main information about Vaniyampalam Rock is as follows:
- Geographical Speciality: It is a huge monolithic rock spread over acres. Located at an altitude of more than 400 feet above sea level, from here you can see beautiful views of Vandoor and the surrounding areas.
- Banu Theertham: There is a spring on the top of the rock that does not dry up throughout the year, which is known as 'Banu Theertham'. It is amazing that the water in it does not dry up even in the harshest summers.
- Places of Worship: There is an ancient Shiva temple on the top of the rock. The famous Vaniyampalam Juma Masjid is also located below. This is also a great sign of religious harmony in the area.
- Historical Importance: This is one of the places where Khilafat Volunteers and the British Army clashed during the Malabar Rebellion (1921). Even Air Force planes targeted this rock at that time.
- Tourism: Many people come here in the evenings to watch the sunset and enjoy the fresh air. It is a popular 'hang-out' spot for families and tourists alike.
- Location: This rock is located next to the Vaniyambalam railway station on the Nilambur-Shornur railway line.
Vaniyambalam Rock, which combines natural beauty and historical importance, remains an important landmark of Vandur even today.
